Abstract
Mountain relief and the extreme precipitation regime within the Russian Far East are reasons for enormous area flooding and high intensity of water erosion in the valleys during floods. The summer-autumn floods cause a major part of the damages from natural disasters to the region’s economy. Stability and safe execution of economic activity in monsoon zone river valleys is impossible without flood protection actions. These actions must take into account the whole complex of disadvantage events, in accordance with floods, — a flooding of territory (repeatability, depth, length), river bed deformations, erosion-accumulative processes on the flood plain. The creation of an automatic technology for short-term hydrological forecasting with on information support system of decision making to help reduce the damages is one of the most important of such actions.
