Zusammenfassung

Das Verbrennungstrauma stellt eine Verletzung extremen Ausmaßes dar. Dies nicht nur hinsichtlich der pathophysiologischen Alterationen, sondern auch hinsichtlich der Lebensgefährdung des einzelnen Patienten und der Aufmerksamkeit bei Verletzung mehrerer Personen im Rahmen von Katastrophen.Viele unserer Kenntnisse zurTraumareaktion basieren auf Erfahrungen und klinischer Forschung beim Verbrennungstrauma. Entscheidende therapeutische Fortschritte, die auch anderen Patientengruppen zu Gute kommen, wurden in den vergangenen 30 Jahren erzielt. Darunter spielt die frühzeitig einsetzende, gezielte Ernährungstherapie eine zentrale Rolle, wie v. a. bei Säuglingen und Kleinkindern beispielhaft demonstriert werden konnte. Auch die Überlegenheit einer frühenteralen Substratzufuhr wurde in ihrer Bedeutung zunächst beispielhaft bei Verbrennungspatienten beobachtet, bevor sie bei Traumapatienten in Studien evaluiert wurde.
