Zusammenfassung
Die erste Beschreibung einer enteralen Sondenernährung findet sich in den Werken des arabischen Arztes Avenzoar (1126–1162), der einen Patienten mit Ösophaguskarzinom über eine in den Schlund eingeführte Silberkanüle ernährte [46]. Allerdings konnte sich die neue Ernährungsform erst vom 16. Jahrhundert an fortsetzen. Bis zum 18. Jahrhundert erfolgte dann eine konsequente Weiterentwicklung dieser Technik, vor allem bezüglich der Materialeigenschaften der Sonden. Die Entwicklung flexibler Katheter aus Leder durch J.B. v. Helmont im Jahre 1644 und der Import von Kautschuk aus Südamerika seit 1735 leisteten hierfür eine der wichtigen Voraussetzungen [26].
