Continuous Iteration. Commuting Substitution Operators
Historically, the Schröder equation emerged not,as in our presentation, as the eigenvalue equation of a substitution operator, but in a different, but related, context, the question of continuous iteration. One defines the iterates fn (x) of a function f(x) by (3.1) fn (x) = f[fn-1(x)], fo (x) = x.
