Zusammenfassung

Antigene sind Substanzen, welche eine Immunantwort auslösen und mit den Immunzellen (T- und B-Lymphozyten) bzw. den von ihnen gebildeten Produkten (Antikörpern, s. Kapitel 7 „Autoantikörper bei rheumatischen Erkrankungen“) in spezifischer Weise interagieren. Immunantwort auslösende komplette Antigene werden auch als Immunogene bezeichnet. Inkomplette Antigene (Haptene) können allein keine Antwort induzieren, sondern wirken nur nach Kopplung mit bestimmten Trägermolekülen (Carrier) immunogen, reagieren dann aber mit den für sie spezifischen Antikörpern. Komplette Antigene können natürlicher, artifizieller oder synthetischer Herkunft sein (Tabelle 6.1).
