Zusammenfassung
In einem schnelllebigen Fachgebiet wie der Navigationschirurgie einen Blick in die Zukunft zu wagen, ist immer mit einem gewissen Risiko verbunden. Man läuft leicht Gefahr, Fehleinschätzungen zu unterliegen, und sieht sich vielleicht in ein paar Jahren in einer ähnlichen Situation wie Thomas Watson, der 1943 als Geschäftsführer von IBM überzeugt war, dass es einen weltweiten Bedarf für vielleicht fünf Computer gebe. Zurückblickend auf die Entwicklung der computerassistierten orthopädischen Chirurgie in den letzten knapp zehn Jahren und im Bewusstsein der noch immer existenten Schwachstellen dieser Technologie lässt sich jedoch einen Reihe von Lösungsansätzen ausmachen, die bereits existieren oder sich gerade in der Entwicklung befinden und die die Spekulationen über die Errungenschaften der kommenden Jahre in bestimmte Richtungen lenken. Ziel dieses Kapitels soll es daher nicht sein, Science Fiction zu beschwören, die auch in zehn oder zwanzig Jahren noch als “Vision” gelten kann, sondern aufzuzeigen, wohin die Entwicklungen der nächsten Jahre uns führen werden und was man in absehbarer Zeit routine mäßig im OP einsetzen wird.
