Zusammenfassung
Adhäsionsmoleküle sind eine Conditio sine qua non der Entzündung, ohne sie entstünde kein entzündliches Infiltrat. Ohne sie wäre der Organismus aber auch nicht imstande, schädigenden Einflüssen eine geregelte Immunantwort entgegenzusetzen. Syndrome, bei denen aufgrund eines genetischen Defekts bestimmte Adhäsionsmoleküle fehlen, leukocyte adhesion deficiencies I oder II [5,10] genannt, liefern die Betroffenen vielen Infektionserregern nahezu schutzlos aus. Der genetische Verlust anderer Adhäsionsmoleküle gar ist mit der Entwicklung eines lebensfähigen Organismus unvereinbar, wie entsprechende genetische Deletionen bei Mäusen zeigen. Adhäsionsmoleküle haben also lebenserhaltende Aufgaben außerhalb und innerhalb pathophysiologischer Prozesse. Ihre gezielte Hemmung sollte dennoch ein Ziel in der Behandlung destruierender Entzündungen sein.
