Abstract
Transverse sections through the walls of the left ventricle and the interventricular septum have shown three zones of venous vascularization:
-
1.
The external epicardial zone comprising a thin, external layer (about 1 mm in thickness) of the free walls of the left ventricle
-
2.
The medial subepicardial (thickest) zone, which together with the external zone constitutes about two-thirds of the total thickness of the walls of the left ventricle and adjacent IY septum
-
3.
The internal subendocardial zone, comprising the remainder of the walls of the left ventricle and IY septum facing this ventricle (Pakalska and Golab 1980)
