Abstract
I first met Walter Kohn in person in 1986 when I visited him at the University of California at Santa Barbara in my capacity as a Program Manager at the NSF where I was on a one-year temporary appointment on a leave from the Naval Research Laboratory. Of course, I “met” Walter a lot earlier in my studies as a graduate student and in my professional career research work and readings and writings that followed.
