Abstract
When I was a student at MIT, Victor Weisskopf often spoke about the privilege of being a physicist. Physicists are provided with resources to conduct research on problems that interest them, and only a report of the findings is asked for in return. No demand is made for a service or product that succeeds in the marketplace in producing a profit. Yet, physicists enjoy a comfortable living, ample opportunity to travel, constant intellectual stimulation, and an opportunity to influence those who follow. In 1989, I was doubly privileged because I was invited to postdoc with Walter Kohn.
