Die Klassifikation maligner Tumoren hat 2 wichtige klinische Aufgaben: Sie ist erstens für die Wahl einer differenzierten, der jeweiligen individuellen Situation angepassten Therapie (sog. histologie- und stadiengerechte Krebstherapie) erforderlich und zweitens eine wesentliche Voraussetzung für eine vergleichbare Analyse der Therapieergebnisse und ein darauf beruhendes Qualitätsmanagement in der Onkologie.
