Die mit Abstand häufigste Krebstodesursache in Deutschland ist das Lungenkarzinom (ICD-9 162; ICD-10 C34). Im Jahre 1999 starben in Deutschland 37.615 Personen an Lungenkrebs, die meisten davon aufgrund des Rauchens.
