Abstract
Mykobakterien weisen im Vergleich zu anderen Bakterien einige Besonderheiten in ihrer Struktur und folglich auch in ihrem Verhalten auf. Die wesentliche strukturelle Besonderheit liegt in dem chemischen Aufbau der Bakterienzellwand. Die Peptidoglykanschicht enthält einen ganz außerordentlichen Bestandteil, nämlich das Muramyldipeptid, das eine starke Wirkung auf das Immunsystem ausübt. Eine weitere Auffälligkeit ist das Lipoarabinomannany, ein Zucker, der im Körper Entzündungen auslöst. Die Zellwand selbst enthält auch noch besondere Fettstoffe, wie Mykolsäuren mit auffällig langen Fettsäuremolekülen, nämlich mit bis zu 70 C-Atomen, die palisadenartig um den Zellleib herum angeordnet sind. In dieser Oberfläche sind auch Zuckerreste eingebaut, Trehalosedimykolat, die als Cordfaktor das Verhalten der Bakterien beeinflussen. Zusätzlich kommt noch eine Wachsschicht, die außen um das stäbchenförmige Bakterium herumliegt.
