Die Actinopterygii bilden den überwiegenden Teil der rezenten Fischfauna, während die Fischformen der Sarcopterygii (S. 288) heute nur noch mit wenigen Arten der Dipnoi (Lungenfische) (S. 290) und Actinistia (Hohlstachler) (S. 296) vertreten sind.
