Zusammenfassung
Die räumliche Form und die ökologischen Eigenschaften der Stadt stehen in einer engen Beziehung. Biodiversität, Stadtböden und -klima, die Hydrologie, aber auch die Energie- und Stoffflüsse der Stadt werden in unterschiedlicher Weise von dem Gefüge unterschiedlicher Flächennutzungen, der Bebauung, dem Versiegelungsgrad und dem Anteil und der Art der Grünflächen und weiteren Faktoren beeinflusst. Ihre Erfassung durch Ansätze wie Biotop- und Strukturtypenkartierungen sowie von Gradientenansätzen ist daher ein Schlüssel zum ökologischen Verständnis der Stadt und Stadtregion für eine ökologisch orientierte Stadtentwicklung.
