Abstract

Malignant tumors of the small bowel are rare, accounting for only less than 2 % of all gastrointestinal malignancies. Primary malignant tumors of the small bowel include adenocarcinoma, neuroendocrine neoplasm, gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), and lymphoma. Metastatic tumors of the small bowel are more common than primary malignant tumors. The diagnosis of malignant tumors of the small bowel is often delayed because of the nonspecific clinical manifestations and difficult radiological diagnosis in the early stage. Increased awareness of the small bowel lesion as a potential source of unexplained abdominal symptoms or chronic anemia, which would lead to select appropriate diagnostic tests and knowledge of the imaging characteristics of malignant tumors of the small bowel, will help in accurate and early diagnosis of malignant tumors of the small bowel resulting in improvement of patients’ prognosis.
