Zusammenfassung
Was motiviert Menschen zur Freiwilligenarbeit? Gibt es dabei Unterschiede zwischen Deutschen und Schweizern? Unterscheiden sich die Beweggründe in Abhängigkeit von der Freiwilligenorganisation voneinander? Das vorliegende Kapitel widmet sich diesen Kontextfragen bezüglich der Motive von Freiwilligenarbeit. Dazu wird der sog. funktionale Ansatz, eine etablierte Theorie über die Motive Freiwilliger, um eine soziale Gerechtigkeitsfunktion erweitert. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden die Motive freiwillig Engagierter und die Motive aktuell Nichtfreiwilliger für eine Freiwilligentätigkeit im sozialen Bereich in Deutschland und der deutschsprachigen Schweiz miteinander verglichen. Zudem erfolgt ein Vergleich der Motive der Freiwilligen bei der Caritas und Amnesty International in jeweils beiden Ländern. Es zeigt sich, dass es Gemeinsamkeiten in den Motivmustern der Freiwilligen innerhalb der jeweiligen Organisationen, jedoch kaum Länderunterschiede gibt. Aus den Ergebnissen werden Implikationen für weitere Forschung sowie Empfehlungen für die Praxis abgeleitet.
