Zusammenfassung
Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die diversen psychoaktiven Substanzen, die aufgrund ihrer Wirkphänomenologie und pharmakologischen Eigenschaften den Stimulanzien zugeordnet werden. Sie können sowohl medizinische als auch nicht medizinische Verwendung finden. Der Beitrag legt einen besonderen Schwerpunkt auf klassische Psychostimulanzien, Kokain und dessen funktionelle Analoga. Psychostimulanzien erhöhen die Konzentration primärer Katecholamine im synaptischen Spalt. Sie können in niedriger Dosierung steigernde Effekte auf Vigilanz, Aufmerksamkeit sowie Lernen und Gedächtnis vermitteln. Insbesondere Leistungen bei repetitiven, Daueraufmerksamkeit erfordernden Aufgaben können zum Teil erheblich gesteigert werden. Unter anderem deshalb werden sie weltweit regelmäßig von Millionen Menschen konsumiert. Psychostimulanzien sind insbesondere im Bereich der hyperkinetischen Störungen häufig verschriebene Arzneimittel. Motiv für den nicht medizinischen Gebrauch von Psychostimulanzien ist neben dem Cognitive Enhancement insbesondere die Rekreation, häufig im Kontext von Lebensstil- und Jugendkulturszenen. Die mit dem nicht medizinischen Gebrauch von Psychostimulanzien assoziierten Risiken umfassen neben zum Teil erheblichen akuten und langfristigen somatischen sowie psychischen Risiken auch solche, die mit polyvalentem Konsum und prohibitionsbedingten Faktoren – wie der Unwissenheit über die quantitative und qualitative Zusammensetzung der konsumierten Substanzen – zusammenhängen.
