Channeling and Radiation in Periodically Bent Crystals

Abstract

The necessary conditions, which must be met in order to treat CU as a feasible scheme for devising a new source of electromagnetic radiation are formulated. The influence of parasitic effects, such as dechanneling phenomenon, the photon attenuation and radiative energy losses on the properties of CUR are analyzed both analytically and numerically. Historical survey of the evolution of the CU-related ideas is given.

Notes

  1. 1.

This statement refers to the channeling of positively-charged particles. The case of electron channeling exhibit more pronounced role of the rechanneling process which will be discussed further in Sect. 6.1.3.2.

  2. 2.

The idea discussed below is similar to the one from [188] where FELs with variable parameters of the undulator were analyzed.
