Zusammenfassung
Anorexia nervosa und Bulimia nervosa sind sehr seltene Erkrankungen bei Männern. Treten sie jedoch auf, so zeigen sie die gleichen Symptome und einen ähnlichen Verlauf wie bei betroffenen Frauen. Typisch sind ein prämorbides Übergewicht und ein hoher Anteil an Homo- bzw. Bisexualität. Die starke weibliche Assoziation von gestörtem Essverhalten führt dazu, dass männliche Betroffene ihre Symptome oft verleugnen und folglich nicht in Behandlung gehen. Auf professioneller Seite kommt es oft zum Verkennen der Symptome bzw. zu Fehldiagnosen. Die Binge-Eating-Störung als neue dritte Essstörung hat einen deutlich höheren Männeranteil als Anorexia und Bulimia nervosa und ist häufig mit Übergewicht assoziiert.
