Die Gravitation ist die erste Wechselwirkung, mit der man im Leben konfrontiert wird. Jedoch erst Anfang des 17. Jahrhunderts wurden die ersten Messungen der beschleunigten Bewegung im Gravitationsfeld der Erde von Galileo Galilei (1564–1642) durchgeführt.
