Abstract
This chapter refers to the structures which surround the spinal cord, giving descriptions of their MR imaging features. These depictions take special regard to the MR imaging characteristics of the developing spine, which may be confounding for an inexperienced viewer. Structures of the spine include the bony and soft tissues forming the spinal canal as well as soft structures which cover the subarachnoid space. Pathologies from all these structures may affect the spinal cord, either due to compression (see Chap. 4) or as consequence of an inflammatory or tumorous disease (Chap. 5).
