Wegen ihres nahe verwandten Entstehungsmechanismus bei der diastolischen Füllung des Ventrikels werden der 3. und 4. Herzton zunächst gemeinsam besprochen, obwohl sich beide bezüglich Pathophysiologie, klinischer Bedeutung und Prognose zum Teil grundsätzlich unterscheiden.
