Abstract

The nucleon-nucleon interaction and its description are fundamental not only by themselves, but also as input to more recent attempts to move theoretically into regions of the nuclear chart with three, four, and more-nucleon systems with Faddeev, Faddev-Jakubovski, effective-field theoretical, no-core shell-model, and other “ab initio” methods. An important role is played by the question of the existance of three and more-body forces. For ground and low-lying excited states of light nuclei and also for most nuclear-reaction observables for these nuclei these methods have been quite successful.
