Zusammenfassung
Bilingualität ist ebenso wie Bikulturalität eine zunehmend wichtige Fähigkeit in unserer Gesellschaft. Kinder aus zugewanderten Familien haben meistens die Chance, von frühester Kindheit an mit zwei Sprachen aufzuwachsen. Dieser Beitrag zeigt warum das Aufwachsen mit zwei Sprachen wichtig und förderlich ist für (1) familiale Kohäsion, die Beziehung zu ihren Eltern und eine reichhaltige häusliche Sprachumwelt, (2) ihre psychologische Adaptation und Wohlbefinden und (3) ihre kognitive und schulische Entwicklung. Es werden Wege aufgezeigt, wie Bilingualität innerhalb der Familie sowie in Kindergarten und in der Schule gefördert werden kann.
