Das Konzept der Korrelation ist von grundlegender Bedeutung für die Nachrichtentechnik. In allen Korrelationsverfahren wird ein Maß für die Ähnlichkeit zweier Signale berechnet. Auf diesem Ähnlichkeitsvergleich lassen sich sowohl wichtige Empfangsverfahren als auch Methoden zur mathematischen Signalanalyse und Synthese aufbauen.
