Zusammenfassung
Die Allgemeine Psychologie hat Wahrnehmung und Handlung lange Zeit getrennt voneinander betrachtet. Das ist zum einen das Ergebnis einer fast unvermeidlichen Arbeitsteilung unter Wissenschaftlern. Andererseits liegt es aber auch an bestimmten Modellvorstellungen, die davon ausgehen, dass Wahrnehmung und Handlungssteuerung unabhängig voneinander operieren. Wahrnehmung macht aber nur Sinn, wenn sie der Handlungskontrolle dient. Umgekehrt dienen Handlungen dazu, bestimmte Wahrnehmungen zu erzeugen. Diese Überlegungen führen zu theoretischen Konzepten, die eine strikte Trennung von Wahrnehmung und Handlung aufgeben.
