Zusammenfassung
Ausgehend von der an Eskimos gemachten Beobachtung, daß eine Beziehung zwischen hohem Fischverzehr und einer niedrigen kardiovaskulären Mortalität bestehen könnte, wurde in verschiedenen epidemiologischen Untersuchungen versucht, diese Beziehung auch in den hochindustrialisierten Bevölkerungen Japans, Europas und der Vereinigten Staaten nachzuweisen. Sowohl in der japanischen Bevölkerung als auch in 4 von 6 durchgeführten Studien in westlichen Industrieländern ließ sich eine Beziehung zwischen einem erhöhten Fischkonsum und einer erniedrigten kardiovaskulären Mortalität aufzeigen. Implizieren diese Beobachtungen nun, daß Fischöl ein Therapeutikum bei der koronaren Herzkrankheit (KHE) sein könnte? Im folgenden werden pathophysiologische Aspekte der KHE sowie diverse Wirkmechanismen der Fischöle und mögliche Nachteile diskutiert (zur Übersicht siehe 10, 12 und 8).
