Abstract
For most vascular surgeons and radiologists carotid angiography (conventional angiography and intravenous or intraarterial DSA) is the gold standard to evaluate atherosclerotic stenosis of the carotid bifurcation. For a long time this was commonly accepted in everyday clinical work. However, angiography is still an invasive and furthermore expensive test. Therefore efforts have been made to develop less expensive and less invasive imaging techniques.
