The aim of this part is to describe the main challenges to research and development (R&D) and different models of R&D management and tools which are used by firms to response to these challenges and support the acquisition of scientific and technical knowledge. The investigation should give insights into the linkages between structural aspects and management practices such as the internal/external division of labour, the structural and procedural organisation of R&D activities, the internal generation and external acquisition of knowledge and the ways of bringing togetheR&Different scientific and technical, disciplines.
