Abstract

Past works (e.g. Golley et al., 1962; Odum and de la Cruz, 1967) suggested a net export of detritus from mangrove, swamps and salt marshes. Studies were conducted on mangroves in the Philippines to determine their importance as a source of organic matter for coastal waters.
