Universal Properties of the Plane-Wave Reflection and Transmission Coefficients

  • Chapter
Acoustics of Layered Media I

Part of the book series: Springer Series on Wave Phenomena ((SSWAV,volume 5))

Abstract

The reflection and transmission coefficients of plane monochromatic waves have several universal properties which do not depend on the type of medium stratification. We begin this chapter with a discussion of the symmetry properties of the transmission coefficient which are retained upon reversion of the direction of wave propagation [6.1].
