Zusammenfassung
Die Motivationstheorie ist in den letzten fünfzig Jahren jener Forschungszweig gewesen, der am meisten zum Erkenntnisstand der Verhaltenswissenschaften beigetragen hat. Sie hat Einsichten vermittelt, die zu einem wesentlich vertieften Verständnis des Verhaltens des Menschen auch in seinem Arbeitsfeld geführt haben. Allerdings zeigt sich dabei, daß ihre Anwendung zur nachträglichen Erklärung dieses Verhaltens viel fruchtbarer ist, als für seine Voraussage. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden zuerst die Kernbegriffe der Motivationstheorie umschrieben und ihre geschichtliche Entwicklung aufgezeigt. Anschließend wird zwei Fragen nachgegangen. Zuerst wird versucht, zu einem Überblick über die als Grundlage der Gestaltung der Personalfunktion der Unternehmung anwendbaren Erkenntnisse der Motivationstheorie in ihrem Zusammenhang zu gelangen. Sodann wird darnach gestrebt, ihre dabei in Erscheinung tretenden Erkenntnisgrenzen zu bestimmen.
