Phenology of the Zambezian Woodland Area with Emphasis on the Miombo Ecosystem

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Ecological Studies ((ECOLSTUD,volume 8))

Abstract

Open woodland is the dominant vegetation formation class over 12% of Africa, or 3.8 × 106 km2 (Fig. 1), occurring only in the Sudano-Zambezian region. This woodland area is in two parts: a narrow strip north of the equator related to the Sudanian Domain and a wide distribution southward, corresponding closely to the Zambezian Domain (White, 1965).
