Abstract

In the previous chapters, we have considered a single-phase multi-product planning problem with identical products. In this chapter, we want to discuss how the results of capacity-oriented and product-oriented strategies can be applied in case of non-identical products. Let us first define what we mean by non-identical products. The products are characterized by:

  • the demand process

  • the inventory holding cost and the stock-out cost

  • the production rate (i.e. the amount that can be produced per unit of time).
