Abstract

In the previous chapter, a model has been introduced for the description of two-stage production systems at capacity level. Besides two-stage systems, there exist many other layouts for which the model must be used. This text concentrates on systems with layouts in which clear main product flows can be distinguished. Hence job shops are left out of scope. However, also in flow shop-like systems different layout elements can be distinguished, such as

  • flow lines

  • assembly and disassembly elements

  • product type-dependent routings

  • loops

  • parallel branches and common buffers.
