A One Dimensional Model for the Swarming Behavior of Myxobacteria

Abstract

The gliding myxobacteria show complex phenomena of swarm building and aggregation to fruiting bodies. This article presents a one dimensional model, relevant for the behavior in ‘streets’ of swarms. The stationary state is analytically discussed and simulated. It results in a criterion for the facility of swarm building. A sketch of a two dimensional formulation is presented in Box 15 (Pfistner/Alt).
