Zusammenfassung
1831 wurde Wilhelm Weber als Professor der Physik Gauß’ Kollege in Göttingen. Gauß und Weber hatten sich erstmals 1828 in Berlin anläßlich der Jahrestagung der Gesellschaft der deutschen Naturforscher und Arzte getroffen. Der damals kaum 24-jährige Weber war Privat-Docent in Halle und beeindruckte Gauß mit seinem Vortrag. Er war dann Gauß’ erste Wahl als Nachfolger des verstorbenen Tobias Mayer des Jüngeren [l].
