Abstract
Philips is made up of a number of Product Divisions (PD’s) which are responsible for the development and manufacture of the products. Responsibility for industrial and product design is carried by Corporate Industrial Design (CID). CID operates from Eindhoven as a Corporate based service with offices in 21 countries and a staff of about 250. In 1984 CID incorporated responsibility for Applied Ergonomics into the range of services provided for the company. The Applied Ergonomics group functions as a specialist support group working directly within project teams. Basic research in Human Factors within Philips is the responsibility of the Institute for Perception Research (IPO).
