Zusammenfassung
Im Mittelpunkt der Holzstoffprüfung steht die Frage nach der Qualität als Maß für die Eignung zur optimalen Erzeugung bestimmter Papier-, Karton- oder Pappensorten. Besondere Schwierigkeiten liegen darin, daß der Qualitätsbegriff bei Holzstoffen nicht eindeutig zu definieren ist. In der Praxis ist meist ein Kompromiß zu finden zwischen Eigenschaften, die für die Ausbildung mechanischer Werte (Festigkeit), optischer Eigenschaften (Weißgrad, Opazität, Lichtstreuvermögen) oder letztendlich der Bedruckbarkeit und der Verdruckbarkeit maßgebend sind.
