Abstract
A computer program, AFORD, is developed to deal with the complexity of house purchase transactions at the city, county, and regional levels. The transactional framework behind the program focuses on the measurement of af-fordability, aggregating households in selected income classes with houses in specified price groups. This matchinq includes selection of geographical locations, target year, tenure choice, consideration of federal and state income and local property taxes, and mortqaqe terms. These parameters are chosen by the user in an interactive mode using a time-share system that is user-friendly. Illustrative comparisons of computer output demonstrate affordability response to changes in interest rates and down payments.
