Abstract

Microsurgery of the middle ear requires a bloodless operative field. Any bleeding that may occur during such surgery, performed with microscopes or endoscopes, can hinder and endanger eradication of the disease process. The techniques for reduction of hemorrhage (controlled arterial hypotension) must ensure a bloodless operative field, while remaining rapidly reversible.
