Part of the book series: Springer Series in Chemical Physics ((CHEMICAL,volume 27))

Abstract

X-ray spectroscopy provided, in its gold era, the basic information on the electronic structure of atoms and therefore the experimental basis of the quantum theory of atoms. After 1930’s the progress of this spectroscopy has been limited by the lack of intense continuum radiation sources.
