Abstract

Since German unification, personal income distribution has been analysed especially with regards to East Germany. The first point of interest is how the income distribution within East Germany has changed during the transformation from a centrally planned to a market oriented system (cf. Mueller et al. 1994). A second aspect is the way in which incomes of households, wage earners, pensioners and others have changed with respect to comparable groups in West Germany. This “East-West” comparison can also be considered as a question of income distribution in a unified Germany.
