Abstract

The gap in the labour productivity growth of services in the last two decades was in Europe positive (excluding Germany), ranging around the two per cent per year (Table 1). In the same period, the productivity differential was more than double in Italy. This was not only due to the very rapid growth of the per capita product in the manufacturing sector, but also to the slower than average productivity dynamics in the service firms.
