Abstract
The exact date of birth of international school sporting events could be the year 1963, when a teacher of physical education, Mr. Jan Kloen from the Netherlands, organised an international handball tournament for school teams in his school in Doetinchem. Before this tournament some private contacts had already taken place between some European countries as well as between countries in other continents. Until 1967 these handball tournaments were held in Doetinchem. This was the beginning of the regular organisation of tournaments by some active persons in Central Europe.
