Abstract

According to Antonii de Haen the first attempt of a surgical correction of a congenital absence of vagina was made in 1761 by an unknown surgeon. During this operation where he tried to create an opening between the bladder and rectum, the bladder and the urethra had been perforated. The 24 year old patient died 3 days later. Another attempt had been made about 150 years ago by Dupuytren (1817). [For historical review see Schmid (1956) and Steinmetz (1940).]
