Zusammenfassung
Der Demonstrationsversuch im ersten Kapitel (S. 6, vgl. auch Abb. 3) lehrt ebenso wie die große Zahl der in den Kapiteln 4 und 5 zu besprechenden Versuchsergebnisse, daß gelöste Substanzen die Packung eines granulierten Gels in der Reihenfolge abnehmenden Molekulargewichts verlassen, wenn sie als Zone gemeinsam aufgebracht und dann mit dem Elutionsmittel hindurchgewaschen werden. Man kann sich von den in dem Gelbett ablaufenden Vorgängen ein sehr vereinfachtes Bild machen, indem man annimmt, daß — im Diffusionsgleichgewicht — das Lösungsmittel in den gequollenen Gelkörnern für verschieden große Moleküle in unterschiedlichem Maße erreichbar ist (vgl. Abb. 1). Da aber nur das Lösungsmittel zwischen den Gelkörnern strömt, werden die in ihm sich ausschließlich aufhaltenden großen Moleküle rascher fortbewegt, als die mit der ruhenden Gelphase im Diffusionsgleichgewicht befindlichen kleineren (vgl. Abb. 2).
