Abstract

Because of the great importance of the volume factor in the management of shock, mortality studies in animal experiments for evaluating the therapeutic effect of plasma substitutes in man should go hand in hand with exact methods for determination of blood volume. A large number of books, review articles and original papers in recent years are dedicated to questions of methodology of blood volume determination. Some of the more important publications in this field are listed at the end of the bibliography.
