Studies on Schistosomiasis mansoni

Correlation between Clinical Finding, Liver Pathology and Portal Circulation Hemodynamics

  • Chapter
Bilharziasis

Abstract

Catheterization of hepatic veins was performed for the first time by Warren and Brannon [20] for biochemical study purposes. Later on this technic was used to measure hepatic and splanchnic blood flow through Fick principle or through bromosulphalein clearance studies [2, 3, 20].

From the Department of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases, University of Brazil (Prof. J. Rodrigues Da Silva) and Department of Cardiology, Guanabara State University Hospital “Pedro Ernesto” (Prof. A. B. Benchimal). This study was supported by research grant No. AI-05188 —01 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, United States Public Health Service.
